2020 EarthShare Georgia Award Winners

This year marks the 50th anniversary of Earth Day. While the official celebration of Earth Day is on April 22, EarthShare Georgia’s virtual Every Day is Earth Day Leadership Lunch (September 28) was an opportunity to recognize the importance of the first celebration in 1970, at a time when environmental protection was often an afterthought. The program included an exclusive walking tour hosted by Ryan Gravel showing Georgia’s urbanized headwaters and discussing the environmental and social issues facing the state’s great rivers. Annual awards were also presented to Cox Enterprises and Delta Air Lines.

2020 Outstanding Corporate Sustainer: Cox Enterprises
Since 2007, Cox Enterprises has raised nearly $1,000,000 for our member organizations, while supporting EarthShare Georgia with an annual corporate gift. In recent years they have provided one of the most engaging workplace-giving fairs for their employees each fall, hosted our annual Corporate Sustainability Forum for several years and participated as an AIR level event sponsor and Corporate Sustainer for at least 15 years

2020 Corporate Green Day Challenge Winning Team: Delta Air Lines
Working alongside EarthShare Georgia Member Organizations, Flint Riverkeeper and American Rivers, Delta’s team exceeded all expectations of project accomplishment. Last November, volunteers removed trash, countless tires and collected recycling from the Flint River headwaters inside Hartsfield Jackson Airport. Delta showed outstanding teamwork as volunteers removed lodged tires stuck in the mud of the river and carried many of them uphill to the collection site – a challenging effort in the cold, slippery and wet conditions.
Stats:
Team of 30 volunteers
300lbs of trash
50lbs of recycling
38 tires

Thank you for helping us making every day Earth Day!
